The SummitSwap Way

Simple, Honest Gear Trading

Built from the ground up for the outdoor community. Here's exactly how buying and selling works on SummitSwap.

For Buyers
Find gear you'll actually use.
Filter by sport, condition grade, and price range. Every listing is from a verified seller with a public rating. If you love an item but not the price — make an offer.
For Sellers
List free. Earn fairly.
No listing fees, ever. Reach buyers who already know the gear you're selling. Grade your item honestly, set your price, and we handle the rest — payments, protection, and payouts. See our guide on where to sell outdoor gear in Australia to compare your options.
The Step-by-Step
01
Browse by Sport
Browse by Sport
Filter listings by sport — hiking, climbing, snow sports, camping, cycling, water sports, or trail running. Add condition grade and price filters to narrow it down. Every listing shows the seller's rating and location upfront.
02
Check the Seller
Check the Seller
Every seller has a public profile showing their rating, number of completed sales, and response rate. Reviews come from verified buyers only — no fake ratings. If something looks off, message the seller before committing.
SummitSwap uses a four-grade condition system: Mint, Good, Fair, Rough. Each grade has a clear, enforced definition. If an item arrives in a worse condition than listed, you're covered.
03
Buy It or Make an Offer
Buy It or Make an Offer
Hit Buy Now to purchase at the listed price, or send an offer if you want to negotiate. Sellers respond within 24 hours. All communication happens through SummitSwap — your personal contact details are never shared.
04
Buyer Protection
Buyer Protection
A small buyer protection fee is added at checkout. In exchange, you're covered if the item never arrives, arrives significantly not as described, or the transaction turns out to be fraudulent. Payment is held in escrow until delivery is confirmed.
The seller doesn't receive their payout until a short window after delivery — typically 7 days. If no dispute is raised, funds release automatically. If you open a dispute, the SummitSwap team reviews and resolves it within 3 business days.
05
Seller Ships, Buyer Confirms
Seller Ships, Buyer Confirms
Sellers ship within their stated handling time. Tracking is required on all orders over $50. Once the buyer confirms receipt and is happy, the seller's payout is released. Leave a review — your rating helps build a trustworthy community.

Common Questions

How much does it cost to sell on SummitSwap?+
Listing is completely free. There are no upfront costs or listing fees. When a sale completes, a small platform fee applies to the seller — currently 8% during our launch phase. The buyer pays a protection fee of approximately 5% at checkout, which funds dispute resolution and buyer guarantees.
What if the item isn't as described when it arrives?+
Open a dispute within 7 days of delivery. The SummitSwap team will review your claim — typically within 3 business days. If the item is significantly not as described relative to its listed condition grade, you'll receive a full refund including the buyer protection fee. Clear photos of the issue help speed up the process.
How do I know what condition grade to use?+
Use the most accurate grade — not the most flattering one. Mint means it could pass for new. Good means you'd be comfortable giving it to a friend. Fair means the wear is obvious but it works flawlessly. Rough means it has seen serious use and the price reflects that. When in doubt, go one grade lower. Honest grading leads to better reviews and fewer disputes.
Can I sell safety-critical gear like harnesses or helmets?+
Yes — with responsibility. You must accurately disclose the age of the item, any falls or impacts it has sustained (for harnesses and helmets), and any visible damage. Buyers rely on this information for their safety. Misrepresenting safety-critical gear is grounds for permanent removal from the platform. We're working on a SummitSwap Verified programme for high-value safety items — stay tuned.
When do sellers get paid?+
Payment is held in escrow from the moment of purchase. Once the buyer confirms delivery and the 7-day dispute window passes without a claim, funds are released to your account. Payouts typically arrive within 1–3 business days depending on your bank. For your first sale, there may be a slightly longer hold while your account is verified.
What sports and gear does SummitSwap cover?+
Hiking, climbing, snow sports (skiing and snowboarding), camping, cycling (road and mountain), water sports (kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing), and trail running. We're focused on outdoor and adventure sports only — you won't find fashion, electronics, or general items here. That focus is the point.
